Antonie Woodey, young murderer from Colorado (USA), 1892.
Unidentified photographer, albumen print on cardboard.
Antonie Woodey, an eleven years old murderer, is described by Lombroso in his book Delitti vecchi e delitti nuovi through an accurate expertise of his face and of his handwriting, obtained by observing this portrait and a boy’s note, received directly from the State of Colorado’s Governor.
Lombroso studied young offenders. He argued that childhood is a time when the predominance of instincts and the lack of moral handbrakes recreate the living conditions of primitive men and criminals.
